Calhoun Power Company, LLC, located in Eastaboga, produces 688 Megawatts (MW) of energy using primarily natural gas, with diesel fuel as an alternate fuel source. It has four GE 7FA gas turbine engines. Electricity generated at the power plant has the capacity to power over 500,000 homes in the region. Beginning in 2017, Calhoun Power will offer three scholarships to graduating seniors planning to focus in electrical/electronic/engineering majors. These scholarships will be awards of $2000, renewable one time, divided across fall and spring semester. Nancy Julian Distinguished Young Woman Award The Nancy Julian Distinguished Young Woman Award was established by the Junior League of Anniston-Calhoun, Inc., in 1996. It honors the memory of Nancy Julian, a very active member of our League and community. UGA is now accepting applicants to our VetCAMP 2019, which is scheduled for June 16-22, 2019. This program is offered to rising high school juniors and seniors and rising college freshmen to evaluate their skills and competitiveness as future veterinarians, provide mentorship and help them experience veterinary medicine as an exciting career path. It’s a great experience and the students have a lot of fun while also learning about the profession.
The application for VetCAMP 2019 is available now on our website (http://vet.uga.edu/academic/vetcamp). The deadline for all application materials is January 25, 2019. Please share this information with any qualified students who may be interested in veterinary medicine. The cost of attending the program is $900 and covers lodging, meals, instruction and social activities. Financial assistance is available to students with demonstrated need.
